A good prelim task film Jake, you have included many of the elements I asked you to. Your evaluation is also well executed. You have gone into detail and thought about what went well, and what didn't. ENsure you use this as the bases of the evaluation for your main task. How much progress did you make?

Preliminary Task
The 180 degree rule is an essential guideline respecting the
on screen dimensional relationship between a character and another character or
object within a scene. We used this rule in our preliminary task by sticking to
one side of the character at all times even though it ended up like it didn’t
really matter as there was only ever one character in the shot at any one time
in our film.
Matching on action refers to film editing where the editor
cuts from one shot to another view that matches the first shots action. We also
used this rule in our preliminary task when the young man was approaching the
car. A note was passed to the young man and this is where we incorporated the
shot. As the note was passed the matching on action shot was introduced. In my opinion we did this rather well as it looks like a natural smooth motion. An eyeline match shot is a film editing technique which is based on the premise that the audience will want to see what the character on-screen is seeing. We did not use this shot in our preliminary task. Firstly because we didn't find an opportunity to in our preliminary task as we didn't feel it would've suited our video however when I begin to produce my final film I will definitely use this shot as within the horror genre, this would fit in perfectly to create suspense.
The film making process of our preliminary task was a very successful process in my opinion because even though I have never edited before, after watching back my video I thought it looked like a good piece of work. I particularly liked editing the shots recorded as I got the opportunity to put it all together. It was complicated at first but once I got used to the editing programme (Premier Pro), it gradually became easier as I got to know where particular tools were, e.g. The Cutting Tool.
Also the filming of the shots around the college was successful as we got everything we intended to get. As long as we followed our storyboard and got the shots intended it was to be a successful process. Using the video camera was a different experience but again, with a bit of practice it gradually became easier and because we already planned everything out, it all went as planned.
I learnt a lot about editing as I have never done it before. I learnt how to use all of the different tools such as adding transitions, cutting shots and adding sound. I learnt this on the editing programme, premier pro. I learnt that you can also speed up shots and many more editing techniques. This will help me when it comes to producing my final film as I now have experience in editing and can apply this to editing my film.
In my preliminary task we opened the film with sound. The sound played was a deep, long noted song which connotes danger and builds suspense to what could happen later on in the song. We also used another sound when the countdown was on. The was a fast paced ticking sound which was counting down connoting danger at speed, that if something happens it will happen very soon. Another sound we used was the explosion which was a massive 'BOOM' sound and this fitted in to the film very well as it added more of a dramatic effect to the building exploding and was a good use of sound. Lastly the last bit of sound we used was the dialogue of the characters speaking as that made the film, without the dialogue the film would have an incomplete feel so the characters speaking is probably the most important bit of sound we used.
Overall I think that we incorporated the sound very well as it all fitted in and as a starter preliminary task, it was successful.
